About The Position

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems for Buncombe County facilities and properties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; with a minimum of five (5) years progressively increasing experience in electrical installation and maintenance work, including pneumatic and electrical control work; or equivalent of education and experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
  • Continuous training and education on various equipment and controls within the HVAC industry.
  • Completion of safety training.
  • Possession of an active N.C. Electrical License, valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to read and calculate poundage requirements in relation to voltage.
  • Ability to perform manual labor under arduous conditions for extended periods of time as required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures to facilitate inspection, repair, maintenance, and replacement.
  • Knowledge of approved electrical methods, practices, code requirements, and safety standards, including those applicable to pipefitting and structural layout.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the installation and repair of electrical systems, controls, machinery, and equipment in County buildings and facilities.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of electrical work.
  • Knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of necessary equipment.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform electrical installation and repair tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Plan new or modified electrical installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring according to specifications and applicable building codes.
  • Repair or replace defective parts in motors, generators, pumps, switchboards, transformers, controllers, contractors, switches, and other fixtures and appliances.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
  • Pull and route low-voltage wiring in open-air plenums.
  • Purchase materials needed as necessary, obtain items from qualified contractors and vendors, or seek bids or price quotes according to established policy and procedure.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
