About The Position

We are seeking an Electrical Safety Officer to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico. The Electrical Safety Officer will oversee the Electrical Safety Program, provide expertise in electrical safety, and serve as the primary contact for electrical safety-related concerns. This role involves providing electrical safety support to construction projects, working directly with project managers, craft, work planners, and field professionals to ensure effective implementation of electrical safe work practices. The officer will also conduct incident investigations, lead safety assessments, and collaborate with various teams to ensure compliance with safety standards. Additionally, the role serves as the primary contact on electrical safety, administers the LANL Electrical Safety Program, and acts as a resource for LANL employees and managers regarding electrical safety concerns. Responsibilities include determining root causes of incidents and developing corrective actions, performing workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards, leading reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and contributing to the development of codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety. The position also involves providing advanced support to engineers/scientists in solving complex technical problems, participating in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements, performing calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents, and developing written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of relevant experience; additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • United States (U.S.) citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, particularly NFPA 70E.
  • Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications such as low voltage AC and DC systems.
  • Significant experience with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated expert communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information.
  • Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.
