This position reports to: Customer Quality Lead __ The work model for the role is: Onsite, Richmond, VA Your role and responsibilities: As a customer Electrical Quality Specialist (Engineer), you will play a pivotal role in enhancing customer satisfaction by resolving complaints, analyzing defects, and providing actionable solutions. You will focus on ensuring the quality of Power Distribution Units (PDU), Static Transfer Switches (STS), and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) for data centers and critical power applications. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to ABB's commitment to delivering high-quality products and services in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will be mainly accountable for: Maintain strict adherence to electrical safety standards during equipment operations, ensuring the safety and well-being of both self and team members; Collaborate closely with field project, service, process quality and engineering teams to implement timely containment and corrective actions. Conduct thorough analysis of customer-returned defective products and prepare comprehensive 8D/Analysis reports, communicate findings and resolution plans directly to customers. Perform on-site customer visits as needed to address complaints, deliver technical support, coordinate defective material collection, and cultivate strong, long-term customer relationships; Partner with service teams, retrieve defective materials, conduct root cause analysis, and drive sustainable improvements across products and processes. Lead and contribute to continuous improvement projects, cost saving initiatives focused on elevating product quality and operational efficiency; Uphold ABB's core values of safety and integrity by taking accountability for actions, demonstrating genuine care for customers, and contributing positively to business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in electrical or Electronics Engineering or a related field PLUS minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or quality control environment
  • Proficient in operating electrical and electronic test equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers
  • Demonstrates clear and persuasive communication in both written and verbal formats
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with transformers, PDUs, STSs, and UPS products, including proficiency in testing, troubleshooting, evaluating, and servicing electrical distribution and control systems, is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics for electrical equipment and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) is preferred
  • Working knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and PPS is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with industry standards including UL1561, NEMA ST-20, IEEE C57.12.01, IEEE C57.12.91, DOE 2016, UL891, and CSA C22.2 is a strong advantage
  • Hands-on experience with Power Apps, Power Automate, or Power BI is preferred
