About The Position

Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) is seeking an Electrical PV Designer to join their Engineering Team. This role is classified as Engineer Level 3, indicating an independent designer with functional knowledge and experience in designing small- and large-scale solar PV/BESS power systems ranging from 1 to 500+ MW interconnected at low- to medium-voltage levels. The designer will independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. They will receive instructions on specific assignments and complex features, with assistance available for unusual problems. Work will be reviewed for correctness and application of QAQC processes and professional judgment. This position may supervise or coordinate the work of other Designers and CAD drafters. The role involves performing design tasks, designing construction drawings (including medium and low voltage AC, DC, grounding, and DAS wiring diagrams, electrical site plans, and equipment layouts), understanding and executing supporting calculations for PV field DC and AC collection electrical infrastructure, and assembling design drawings and documents. The designer will also attend meetings with internal and external customers, provide engineering support through design and construction phases, and follow QAQC processes. Other responsibilities include attending site visits, interacting with Project Managers and external design teams, maintaining professional development goals for PE certification, providing mentorship, performing job functions at both detailed design and preliminary proposal levels, implementing engineering department workflows, coordinating with inter-department staff, applying State, NEC, and NESC codes, and coordinating with the CAD Manager. The company emphasizes integrity, problem-solving, innovation, teamwork, and safety, and is part of Quanta Services.
