About The Position

Christopher B. Burke Engineering Ltd. (CBBEL) is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to join their Mechanical/Electrical Department at their Rosemont headquarters. This role involves applying standard engineering techniques to moderately complex projects, providing technical guidance, oversight, and mentoring to junior engineers, while remaining hands-on with design and modeling. The Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Department focuses on municipal, IDOT, tollway, and county roadway/streetscape lighting projects, as well as site and parking lot lighting, ITS, local event power, standby generators, potable water pump stations, stormwater pump stations, sewage lift stations, and electric vehicle chargers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software and CAD tools – experience with MicroStation and Geopak, or similar tools like AutoCAD Civil 3D or OpenRoads Designer
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and multi-tasks
  • Familiarity with local agencies including Illinois municipalities, IDOT, and regulatory permitting agencies

Nice To Haves

  • PE license preferred, or actively working toward licensure

Responsibilities

  • Prepares design plans, specifications, and related documents for engineering projects.
  • Documents design work progress in writing, drawings, sketches, calculations, or tabulations for quality assurance reviews.
  • Evaluates existing site conditions, including topographic survey and geotechnical field data collection.
  • Coordinates with utility companies for new services and/or to determine if relocations are necessary.
  • Performs required calculations for project feature design.
  • Develops and/or back checks quantity and cost estimations for design projects.
  • Utilizes value engineering, technical input, and contributions from others throughout the design process.
  • Assists in the preparation of proposals for future work.
  • Continually develops personal knowledge of engineering and construction best practices and standards.
  • Acts as a liaison with clients, contractors, or others involved with the project, assisting with coordination and problem-solving.
  • Assists in controlling project costs by managing budget, invoicing, and reporting.
  • Expands existing network by attending networking events and fostering new relationships for talent identification and business development.
