About The Position

A privately held, Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) headquartered in Land O' Lakes, Florida is seeking an experienced Electrical Power Systems Design Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced power conversion products used in military, aerospace, and industrial applications. This role is ideal for an engineer with extensive experience designing AC/DC and DC/DC switch-mode power supplies, UPS systems, and power distribution equipment. The successful candidate will work closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, PCB Design, and Quality teams to develop innovative products from concept through production while ensuring compliance with military and commercial standards. This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering position where creativity, problem-solving, and leadership are equally valued.

Requirements

Strong experience in: AC/DC and DC/DC Power Supply Design, Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS), Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), Power Electronics, Inverters, Power Distribution Systems, Schematic Capture, PCB Design, Component Selection, Circuit Simulation, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Thermal Management, EMI/RFI Mitigation, EMI/EMC Compliance, Environmental Design (Shock, Vibration, Temperature, Humidity), Root Cause Analysis, Electrical Troubleshooting to the Component Level.
Experience using: Digital Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Electronic Loads, Thermal Chambers, Power Analyzers.
Experience with Altium Designer, PCAD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Electrical CAD and Simulation Software.
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Physical Sciences.
5+ years of experience designing power electronics and power conversion systems.
Experience with AC/DC and DC/DC switch-mode power supplies.
Experience designing Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS).
Experience with military, aerospace, or ruggedized electronic products.
Familiarity with: ISO 9001, AS9100, Military Standards (MIL-STD) for ground, airborne, and naval environments.
Experience with product qualification and regulatory compliance.
Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and evaluate complex electrical power conversion systems.
Design AC/DC and DC/DC switch-mode power supplies utilizing a variety of circuit topologies.
Design and troubleshoot: Power Supplies, UPS Systems, Inverters, Power Distribution Systems.
Perform component-level circuit design, analysis, testing, and troubleshooting.
Interpret customer specifications and marketing requirements for new or modified products.
Determine design approaches and technical parameters for both new product development and product enhancements.
Modify and improve existing electronic designs for increased performance and manufacturability.
Support the Sales team with technical proposal development and product feasibility reviews.
Identify and specify components appropriate for demanding power applications.
Lead design reviews and ensure products meet customer, military, and regulatory requirements.
Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing new technologies and design methodologies.
Conduct root cause analysis for product failures and technical issues.
Coordinate engineering efforts across: PCB Layout, Mechanical Engineering, Documentation, Manufacturing, Regulatory Compliance.
Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Ensure products comply with: Company engineering standards, Customer specifications, Industry regulations, Applicable military standards.
Develop strategies to achieve product certifications and regulatory approvals.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on: Reliability, Manufacturability, Cost reduction, Product standardization, Productivity.
Develop engineering documentation, specifications, and technical manuals.
Write test procedures and develop custom test fixtures.
Perform validation testing and environmental qualification.
Release completed designs for manufacturing.
