About The Position

The Electrical Power Generation Engineer provides technical leadership for the design, delivery, commissioning, and operational readiness of mission-critical data center power infrastructure. The role requires extensive knowledge of grid substations, medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) distribution equipment, power quality monitoring, power-generation systems, protective relaying, switchgear, transformers, and related electrical infrastructure. This engineer works cross-functionally with design, engineering, construction, delivery, commissioning, and operations teams from project inception through final handover to ensure the power-generation infrastructure is safe, resilient, maintainable, scalable, and aligned with data center availability objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience with utility substations, grid interconnection, MV and LV electrical distribution systems, and mission-critical or industrial power infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of MV switchgear, LV switchboards, transformers, protective relays, generators, paralleling switchgear, UPS systems, ATS equipment, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Experience performing or reviewing short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, grounding, harmonic, and protection-coordination studies.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering electrical infrastructure from design through construction, commissioning, and operational turnover.
  • Ability to interpret and develop electrical one-line diagrams, control schematics, protection diagrams, equipment specifications, and commissioning procedures.
  • Strong cross-functional coordination, troubleshooting, technical writing, vendor-management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to support 24/7 critical operations, planned maintenance windows, and emergency-response events.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hyperscale or enterprise data centers, microgrids, utility-scale power systems, or high-voltage substations.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NEC, NESC, NETA, OSHA, and applicable utility-interconnection standards.
  • Experience with SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB/Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, Eaton, and Vertiv UPS systems and equipment.
  • Professional Engineer license, NETA certification, or equivalent power-systems credential.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the electrical power-generation subject-matter expert across concept development, detailed design, construction, commissioning, operational handover, and lifecycle support.
  • Define electrical design criteria, system architecture, capacity, redundancy, reliability, maintainability, grounding, protection, and operational-readiness requirements.
  • Lead design and technical reviews for grid substations, utility interconnections, high-voltage and medium-voltage substations, transformers, switchgear, breakers, protection relays, cables, grounding, metering, and communications interfaces.
  • Design and review MV and LV electrical distribution systems, including MV switchgear, transformers, LV switchboards, motor-control centers, panelboards, distribution boards, UPS interfaces, automatic transfer switches, and busway systems.
  • Review electrical interfaces for generator systems, generator step-up transformers, generator breakers, paralleling switchgear, load banks, and associated balance-of-plant electrical equipment.
  • Establish and validate power-system operating strategies, including utility transfer, generator paralleling, power quality monitoring, load shedding, restoration, emergency operations, and failover scenarios.
  • Coordinate utility-interconnection requirements, including protection coordination, relay settings, anti-islanding, transfer-trip, telemetry, metering, energization plans, and operating agreements.
  • Perform or review short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, harmonic, grounding, voltage-drop, and protective-device coordination studies.
  • Review electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, protection diagrams, equipment specifications, cable schedules, vendor submittals, and construction-installation packages.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, I&C, network, controls, construction, delivery, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure coordinated, buildable, testable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Develop and support commissioning plans for substation energization, equipment startup, relay testing, switchgear testing, generator testing, load-bank testing, integrated systems testing, and utility-transfer tests.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of electrical faults, protective trips, power-quality events, equipment failures, and recurring operational issues.
  • Develop electrical operating procedures, maintenance strategies, emergency-response plans, spare-parts recommendations, and lifecycle replacement plans.
  • Ensure complete turnover documentation, including as-built drawings, relay settings, test reports, commissioning records, equipment manuals, training materials, warranties, and asset records.
  • Support operations through periodic testing, outage planning, capacity upgrades, maintenance optimization, and continuous reliability improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety, utility, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
