About The Position

Provides maintenance engineering expertise in electrical maintenance projects, circuit analysis, grounding systems, over-current protection, testing and analysis of equipment, structures and rail systems. Provides technical support within the Electrical Power & Equipment Branch for redesigns, retrofits, or rebuilds. Provides support for system contracts, to ensure they are designed, manufactured, installed, tested and/or modified in full compliance with contractual requirements, approved drawings and related codes and standards, to produce and maintain a safe, reliable rapid transit system. Performs field-testing and condition monitoring activities to status equipment and enhance the Authority's electrical systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in electrical maintenance and construction of transit facilities and/or commercial building power systems.
  • In lieu of a degree, directly related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Highly effective verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Experience in rapid rail transit power systems, electrical equipment refurbishing/retrofit and proficiency in using maintenance management software programs such as MMIS is highly desirable.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have no DUI's in previous five years and no more than three moving violations in the previous two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer registered in the state of Georgia or possesses the ability to obtain a Georgia registration within six months preferred (not required).
  • Professional Engineers (P.E.) License preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support and assistance to Construction Administration before, during and after construction. Provides technical support to Facilities Engineering about the selection, maintenance and operability of electrical equipment. Maintains tracking mechanism to report on work activities.
  • Assures compliance to contract documents by comparing Contractor submittments to the specified design and installation criteria.
  • Manages priorities to ensure that assistance requested by others is provided in a timely manner. Ensures supervisory staffs are aware of critical issues, changes in scope and scheduling.
  • Provides a maintenance and operations perspective to MARTA's document review process and prepares required feedback within the shortest possible time, given the schedule and complexity of the work. Maintains tracking mechanism to report on work activities.
  • Evaluates drawings and specifications and monitors construction and equipment installations for new and existing rail and facility expansions, additions, and retrofits. Ensures drawings and specifications conform to MARTA design criteria and the latest codes and industry standards.
  • Updates maintenance procedures, criteria, drawings, schematics, diagrams, and manuals related to existing electrical installations. Reviews changes to these criteria and assures that approved changes are incorporated into the proper documents. Maintains tracking mechanism to report on work activities.
  • Performs accurate and complete reviews of the technology through research, test and pilot program implementation.
  • Documents and monitors the performance, life expectancy and replacement cost of equipment and technologies proposed and currently in use. This data is recorded, trended, evaluated and communicated within the department. Maintains tracking mechanism to report on work activities.
  • Investigates, identifies and develops maintenance programs and procedures to improve the safety, reliability, maintainability and performance of all rail facility related AC and DC electrical equipment. Maintains tracking mechanism to report on work activities.
  • Interacts with MARTA departments, other Authorities and like industries to develop an information exchange on such topics as maintenance operations, procedures, programs and technologies. This information exchange creates a mutually beneficial process.
  • Performs field-testing and condition monitoring activities to status equipment. Implements corrective measures before potentially damaging failures occur. Maintains tracking mechanism to report on work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
