About The Position

Bantrel is seeking a qualified Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Field Engineer for a Night Shift role on industrial projects, specifically joining their mining team in Leroy, SK. This role involves performing field inspections and construction walk-downs to ensure electrical and instrumentation designs are met. The engineer will handle technical queries and non-conformance reports, primarily using Integrated Construction Centre (ICC) platforms. They will act as a liaison between the Owner (BHP), Engineers of Record (HBJV), and the construction team, interpreting designs and standards to support construction efforts. This position is part of the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) executing engineering and construction for the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project, a significant undertaking in Saskatchewan. The role is full-time, short-term, and based at a camp with a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation. It is not eligible for relocation subsidy or living out allowance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience in the electrical discipline on large-scale capital projects, preferably within mining, potash, heavy industrial, or similarly complex construction environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality management systems, including ISO standards, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and auditing processes supporting major project delivery.
  • High attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new systems, standards, and technologies within a fast-paced project environment.
  • Functional knowledge of industry-leading engineering standards and engineering management practices in a multi-discipline EPC/EPCM environment, including experience with 3D, data-centric design and construction platforms.
  • Working knowledge of integrated project delivery workflows, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, health & safety, environment & community, and risk management, typical of large mining and industrial capital projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage a wide range of stakeholders, including discipline leads, functional managers, clients, vendors, and construction contractors.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in the Province of Saskatchewan is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Completes mandatory mechanical inspections for all infrastructure included within the scope.
  • Signs applicable check sheets upon completion of field inspection.
  • Reviews submittals related to Electrical and Instrumentation (contractor project execution plan, quality plan, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection records).
  • Issues quality incident reports.
  • Manages Technical Queries (TQs), Field Change Notices (FCNs), Field Change Reports (FCRs), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as they pertain to the electrical and instrumentation discipline.
  • Communicates electrical and instrumentation design changes and/or field engineering changes with construction and engineering teams.
  • Performs electrical and instrumentation field inspections.
  • Ensures effective and efficient leveraging of ICC platforms and systems to submit queries, notices, and reports.
  • Reviews installed quantities.
  • Attends and participates in construction walk-downs and verifies closure of punch items.
  • Reviews turnover documentation.
  • Confirms that all minimum maintenance and inspection activities are completed for electrical and instrumentation components by the Contractors.
  • Participates in site risk and control ownership as required.
  • Generates reports as required on electrical and instrumentation engineering deliverables, execution, and turnover.
  • May involve Shaft Mining underground work.
  • Operates day-to-day ensuring that activities are prioritized in line with broader objectives.
  • Attends and participates in the weekly contractor quality meeting.
  • Prepares field sketches for temporary facilities when required.
  • Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the electrical discipline such as installation and testing of electrical systems, lighting systems, high voltage equipment and grounding, and DCS systems.
  • Establishes an electrical design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Engineer of Record, including the agreement on electrical engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management.
  • Specifies the electrical criteria for the construction of temporary construction facilities as required.
  • Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct electrical materials.
  • Coordinates and monitors the interfaces for electrical data exchange to support the construction automation plan and the project controls program requirements at the job site.
  • Coordinates with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.
  • Plans and recommends electrical procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
