This role provides electrical & instrumentation & controls design and drafting services to Teledyne Brown Engineering Inc. in Huntsville, AL. The position involves performing engineering, design, and analysis related to instrumentation and control and electrical systems. Responsibilities include preparing cable design drawings, designs for manufacture, installation, and test, and electrical and instrumentation and controls (I&C) drawings. The role requires managing and scheduling assigned work in support of multiple projects and working in a collaborative, multidiscipline engineering environment. PLC Programming using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000 is required, with Siemens SIMATIC Step 7 being a plus. The designer will operate computer-assisted engineering and design software, prepare and study technical drawings to ensure conformity to standards, generate architecture for functional components, and deliver hardware designs through prototype, beta, and production release. Participation in technical design reviews and support for compiling data and writing reports are also part of the role. Awareness and understanding of advanced technology and its applicability to company products are expected. Daily availability, including evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines, is required. HMI Development using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000 is a plus.

Requirements

• Proficient with CAD design tool AutoCAD Electrical and an ability to develop electrical related drawing packages essential for creating detailed electrical plans, drawings and design products.
• Proficient developing detailed schematics (e.g. wiring diagrams, functional control logic diagrams (FCLDs etc.)) for electrical power and industrial control systems.
• Must have a strong understanding of electrical systems, components, and design principles.
• Experience designing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems or systems utilizing PLCs a strong plus.
• Working knowledge of ANSI Y14.100 and related drawing standards and ability to prepare drawings in accordance with those standards.
• Familiarity with International Electronics Commission (IEC) standards 61082 and 60617.
• Working Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
• Familiarity with National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) standards.
• Familiarity of control panel design, both 2D and 3D.
• Must be able to manage and schedule assigned work in support of multiple projects.
• Work in a collaborative multidiscipline engineering environment.
• Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions during the design and implementation phases.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with all team members within the Mechanical, Electrical and Process Disciplines.
• US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

• PLC Programming using Siemens SIMATIC Step 7.
• HMI Development using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000.
• Experience working on projects supporting the nuclear industry or other industries w/ strict QA program such as NQA-1 a strong plus.
• Working knowledge of UL-508A a strong plus.
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
• Associate’s degree in Drafting and Design and/or equivalent electrical design experience.
• BS in Engineering or related field is a bonus, but not a requirement.
• Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen.
• Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…).

Responsibilities

• Performs engineering, design and analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control and electrical systems and equipment used with and to support process, mechanical and electrical hardware systems and equipment.
• Prepare cable design drawings to include schematics, physical layouts, BOMs, assembly notes and views and projections.
• Prepare designs for manufacture, installation, and test.
• Prepare electrical and instrumentation and controls (I&C) drawings.
• Manage and schedule assigned work in support of multiple projects.
• Work in a collaborative multidiscipline engineering environment.
• PLC Programming using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000.
• Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
• Prepares and studies technical drawings, specifications of instrumentation and controls and electrical systems, to ensure conformity to standards and customer requirements.
• Generates architecture for functional components and assists with product architecture.
• Delivers hardware designs through prototype, beta, and production release in compliance with product development process and quality practices.
• Participates in technical design reviews of existing designs and peer reviews.
• May support the compilation of data and writing of reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects.
• Briefs others on deliverables, status and progress.
• Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.
