About The Position

Merrick & Company is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls System Engineer for their Oak Ridge, TN project office. This role will primarily support Nuclear Services and Technology (NST) projects for the Department of Energy (DOE), with potential involvement in industrial power generation projects. The engineer will be responsible for developing control system design documents, acting as a liaison with project management and other engineering disciplines, and ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to industry standards and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited university.
  • EIT Certification with the ability to pursue a State of Tennessee PE License.
  • Minimum of Four (4) - Eight (8) years progressive experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Piping & Instrumentation (P&ID) interpretation.
  • Capable with Instrumentation selection and datasheet preparation.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Automation control systems.
  • Strong understanding of PLC’s, DCS, and HMI systems.
  • Skilled in the use of programming languages such as ladder logic, C, or Python.
  • Proficiency in SQL database management.
  • US Citizenship required for client projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Nuclear related design experience preferred but not required (NQA-1, NRTL, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Develop control system design documents and drawings under minimal supervision of senior engineers.
  • Serve as the primary interface with project management and other engineering disciplines on project control systems.
  • Assist in developing the basis of design and scope of work documents.
  • Develop equipment specifications for controls equipment, operations manuals, and test reports.
  • Develop control system narratives, logic drawings, programming reports, and I/O lists.
  • Ensure control systems comply with relevant industry standards and project safety requirements/regulations.
  • Verify technical accuracy and conformance to project design criteria of engineered work products.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures, design guidelines, and design tools are utilized on projects.
  • Travel to domestic client project sites to support projects and assist with marketing Merrick’s capabilities.
