About The Position

IES Residential is seeking a passionate and experienced Electrical Instructor to help develop the next generation of electrical professionals. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished electrician to share their expertise through engaging classroom instruction, hands-on training, and real-world simulations. If you have extensive residential electrical experience, a strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), and a desire to mentor others, we encourage you to apply. Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of residential electrical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with both single-family and multifamily residential construction.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of the National Electrical Code.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical systems, installation methods, and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and mentor students with different learning styles and experience levels.
  • Strong organization, classroom management, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn training-related software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, including background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous electrical, construction, or trade experience preferred.
  • Relevant industry certifications or licenses preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.
  • Communicate in person, by phone, and through email.
  • Travel as required to support project and operational needs.
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites.
  • Work on active job sites, indoors and outdoors, including attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather, construction noise, dust, and other job site conditions.
  • Wear safety gear such as Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet customer service and operational needs.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future need for employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Previous teaching, training, or instructional experience preferred.
  • Experience within construction, operations, or workforce development environments preferred.
  • Spanish-speaking ability is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on instruction focused on residential electrical systems, installations, safety practices, and industry standards.
  • Teach curriculum aligned with the NEC, company procedures, and current industry best practices.
  • Create real-world learning activities and simulations that prepare students to contribute effectively in the field.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to students with varying skill and experience levels.
  • Monitor student performance and maintain accurate attendance, training, and progress records.
  • Partner with division leadership to identify training needs and coordinate on-the-job learning opportunities.
  • Develop and update lesson plans, training materials, and specialty courses based on code changes, new technologies, and business needs.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and productive classroom and training environment.
  • Support employee onboarding, continuing education, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Travel periodically to local divisions, training sites, and other company locations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
