JMT is currently seeking an Electrical Construction Inspector to carry out Construction Management and Inspection Services in the Pittsburgh, PA region. Projects may include public housing, education, airport, rail/transportation and/or other public building projects. Experience should include inspection of various building systems and/or electrical equipment/systems such as electric motors, power distribution, emergency generators, electrical switchgear, distribution panels, fire alarm systems, disconnect switches, conduit, wiring, and HVAC controls/building management systems (BMS). Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the latest Building Codes.
  • Willingness to learn and an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written. Verbal communication includes speaking with the Resident Engineer, other contract staff, and facility staff both in person via two-way communication.
  • Valid Driver's license required - Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 8 years of experience inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $200K to $25 million plus) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift)
  • Trained in OSHA 30-hour construction safety

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred
  • Mechanical, civil, architectural, and structural knowledge preferred
  • Aviation/Airport experience preferred
  • ICC and Work Zone Safety Certifications are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), special inspection reports, daily time and material records, and document unit price work
  • Identify potential extra work issues and keep the Resident Engineer/PM advised of potential issues
  • Prepare estimates of extra work and related sketches and documentation
  • Review plans for constructability and prepare comments
  • Review contractor payment requests and provide comments to the Resident Engineer/PM
