About The Position

The City of Huntsville’s Inspection Department is seeking qualified applicants to fill Electrical Inspector I and II positions. This is journey level electrical inspection work in securing and maintaining compliance with electrical construction codes. Work involves conducting inspections of a wide variety of electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations to determine whether plans, workmanship, and materials comply with related codes and ordinances governing the installation of electrical systems. The Electrical Inspector II position is an advanced journey level of electrical inspection work in securing and maintaining compliance with electrical construction codes. Work involves leading, providing assistance and advice to electrical inspectors and conducting the more difficult and complex inspections.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency or graduation from a vocational school accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and experience as a journeyman level Electrician; or any combination of education, training and experience (for Inspector I).
  • Current State of Alabama Certified Journeyman Electrician - required upon hire and must be maintained (for Inspector I).
  • Alabama Certified as a Journeyman Electrician or International Code Council Certification as an Electrical Inspector (for Inspector II).
  • Ten years’ electrical trade experience is required (for Inspector II).
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting inspections of a wide variety of electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations to determine whether plans, workmanship, and materials comply with related codes and ordinances governing the installation of electrical systems.
  • Leading, providing assistance and advice to electrical inspectors (for Inspector II).
