About The Position

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced Electrical Foreman to lead a small work crew. This role involves scheduling, coordinating, supervising, and ensuring the safety and productivity of the crew. The Electrical Foreman will also act as a management liaison and client contact, fostering a safe work culture, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and conducting safety talks. Responsibilities include managing crew competency, assigning tasks, coordinating on-the-job training, setting work standards, promoting teamwork, and performing craftwork alongside the crew. The Foreman will oversee project plans and schedules, ensure daily and weekly activities meet production goals, identify and secure necessary tools and materials, and communicate any plan/schedule deficiencies. They will translate work requirements into prioritized plans, adjust schedules as needed, advise on equipment and material shortages, resolve scheduling conflicts, and ensure completed work meets job specifications and quality standards. The role also involves preparing reports, maintaining a foreman's log, ensuring daily Task Hazard Analyses (THAs) are performed, assisting with project production and progress reports, maintaining timekeeping records, and recommending personnel actions. Additional assignments as requested are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson
  • OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
  • Familiarity with other construction trades and crafts
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace
  • Strong planning and scheduling skills
  • Ability to handle administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents
  • Effective use of computers and other technology

Nice To Haves

  • An active Texas Electrical license may be required for individuals performing and supervising work in this field.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, coordinate, supervise, and provide leadership to a small work crew.
  • Ensure the safety and productivity of the crew.
  • Act as a management liaison and/or designated client contact.
  • Facilitate a safe work culture and ensure crew members adhere to safety standards.
  • Conduct weekly “toolbox” talks and participate in safety/incident investigations.
  • Complete safety reports within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Ensure the work area is consistently clean, safe, and organized.
  • Orient new crew members and assess the competency and capability of each crew member.
  • Assign individual and crew tasks and coordinate on-the-job training for apprentices.
  • Facilitate mentoring of apprentices by journeymen.
  • Set and maintain work standards and outline behavioral expectations.
  • Promote, support, and facilitate teamwork.
  • Perform related craftwork along with the crew.
  • Understand project plans and schedules, and ensure the crew’s daily and weekly activities meet production goals.
  • Identify and ensure availability of all tools and materials required by the crew.
  • Identify needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicate them to the appropriate persons.
  • Translate general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual tasks and assignments.
  • Review and adjust specific project activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules.
  • Advise superintendent of equipment and material shortages.
  • Work with the crew to overcome work challenges and resolve or report scheduling conflicts.
  • Ensure that completed work meets standards and job specifications.
  • Inspect completed work and initiate timely resolutions to any problems.
  • Prepare reports as required and maintain foreman’s log or diary.
  • Ensure Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed and recorded daily.
  • Assist general foreman with determining project production and work progress, and completing quality reports.
  • Maintain accurate, daily timekeeping records, documenting late starts, early outs, and absences.
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, and discipline.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
