Electrical Firmware Design Engineer V

Marvin GroupInglewood, CA
$175,000 - $225,000Onsite

About The Position

This position requires a strong background in embedded system firmware development with an emphasis on military avionics applications including standard bus interface such as MIL-STD-1553, CAN, RS232, power switching for solenoids and motor drivers, analog inputs, and conversion circuits. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design, simulation, implementation, and validation of prototype to flight design that may include application-specific implementation of FPGAs and/or microprocessors. The candidate should have a broad background emphasizing work with embedded controllers bridging the gap between hardware and software architectures ensuring system performance, security, and stability for electro-mechanical devices and subsystems, preferably for use in military or commercial aviation. Knowledge of airborne weapon systems and /or weapon carriage equipment is strongly desirable. Specialist knowledge regarding Hardware Description Language (HDL), simulation, synthesis, and implementation tools such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, Questa, Synplify, Synopsis, and implementation of FPGAs and CPLDs from Microsemi, Altera, and STMicroelectronics will be a strong differentiator for candidate selection. Experience with C, C++ embedded software development for ARM-based CPU architecture, DSP, SoC such as STM32x, Cortex M4 MCUs for 1553 and CAN bus, memory controller, discrete input interfaces, and ADC data processing for MIL-STD-1760 messages is highly desirable. The candidate must be flexible and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment as a member of a cross functional team and as an individual contributor. A successful candidate will be able to show evidence of their capability to excel in performance tasks as an individual contributor/specialist with a minimum of oversight, and to function well as a member of a cross-functional team.

Requirements

  • Minimum BSEE, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering and a minimum of 12 years’ experience in relevant development environment, preferably for military or commercial aviation
  • The candidate should have knowledge of end-to-end FPGA and embedded controller firmware/software development – design, build, and V&V process for high reliability (flight) electronics
  • Must be proficient in Hardware Description Language (VHDL, Verilog), SystemVerilog, C, C++
  • Must be proficient in simulation, synthesis, device-specific implementation tools such as Questa, Synplify, etc.
  • Must be able to perform static timing analysis, constraints for synthesis, and back-annotated (gate-level) simulation
  • Must have experience with 1553B BCRT design by either custom or drop-in core and back-end interface logic for application-specific embedded controls – solenoids, motor drivers, power discrete switching, analog inputs, ADC scanning logic, etc.
  • Experience with developing logical interface for SPI, I2C, UART, DMA, CAN, processor local bus, etc.
  • Must be able to support initial bring-up of prototype/engineering/flight model hardware, Design Verification Testing (DVT), and Acceptance Test (ATP), and any firmware-related support as needed for system integration and test
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be fluent in written and spoken English
  • Must be able to write engineering reports, typically to document analysis and test results
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is essential
  • Proof of Education is required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting DoD acquisition programs and/or aerospace systems development
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553B Bus Protocol, Physical, and Logical layer implementation
  • Familiarity with AS9100, MIL-STD-810, or other DoD and Aerospace quality and compliance standards
  • Experience with military/high reliability electronics subsystem development
  • Knowledge of airborne weapon systems and /or weapon carriage equipment is strongly desirable
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP
