About The Position

The Electrical Estimator analyzes project specifications and requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates and customer proposals within established timelines. The role estimates NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing services for electrical apparatus at customer locations, including breakers, transformers, and switchgear. It works with other electrical estimators, outside sales, and operations to ensure projects are properly scoped and quoted. This is a hybrid position, working remotely and at the office in Irving, and reports directly to the Estimation Manager. The role requires an enthusiastic, self-directed person with strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills. Key objectives include achieving targeted quote volumes while maintaining quality, improving existing processes and systems, and supporting departmental and organizational objectives. The position also involves ongoing learning about industry trends and company services.

Requirements

At least 2 years of electrical testing estimation experience is preferred but not required; alternatively, electrical technician experience will be considered, as will hands-on estimation experience without electrical experience.
Ability to read and understand one-line diagrams.
Knowledge of Salesforce.
Ability to work independently and remain highly motivated.
Strong interpersonal, communication, written, and oral presentation skills.
Solid understanding of profitability and other financial measurements.
Advanced computer skills with Excel, Word, Adobe, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Outlook.
Strong time management, planning, organization, and prioritization skills.
Strategic thinking and strong analytical skills.
Professional demeanor and positive attitude.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and complete requests for quotations (RFQs) received from Shermco sales personnel.
Obtain information needed for quotes from outside sales or, rarely, directly from customers, such as accessibility constraints, one-line drawings, training requirements, and photos.
Read and interpret plans, proposals, and other documents to create competitive bids.
Participate in quarterly job walks with outside sales to build technical knowledge of electrical apparatus.
Review past job performance data where applicable to maximize job margins and ensure proper costing and scope.
Prepare quote worksheets estimating labor, materials, vendor support, logistics, freight, and other project expenses.
Obtain vendor quotes for materials and services as applicable.
Review quote queues daily to ensure quotes are submitted on time.
Review irregular or large projects with production or operational personnel.
Collaborate with production departments to confirm hours and materials, using insights from past jobs and available historical data.
Write technical proposals and prepare quote letters for customers on behalf of sales.
Update quotes and assist with change-order proposals for additional work scopes.
Remain informed about industry trends and company services through educational opportunities.
Take responsibility for achieving departmental and organizational objectives.
