About The Position

Formlabs is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead and develop a rapidly growing team of talented electrical engineers. This role involves overseeing the design and production of complex electrical systems for 3D printers, from initial concept through to mass production. The manager will be an active contributor to product development, guiding the team through design tradeoffs, influencing product strategy, and ensuring the delivery of high-performance, cost-effective, and reliable electronics. The position requires a leader who can hire top talent, foster their growth, and continuously improve the electrical engineering function's output and efficiency, while maintaining a strong focus on customer value and entrepreneurial problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Expertise in the design and production of complex electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of embedded systems and code.
  • Experience shipping multiple products from concept through production.
  • Ability to communicate fluidly across technical domains.
  • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.
  • Ability to dive into unfamiliar territory and problem-solve.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to tie technical work to customer value.
  • Ability to block and tackle for the team.
  • Never satisfied with the status quo.

Responsibilities

  • Be an active contributor in product development.
  • Help the team navigate design tradeoffs and ship industry-leading products.
  • Scope electrical engineering work to a finely focused edge, prioritizing critical tasks for customer success.
  • Drive the team to hit program milestones and provide input to program schedules.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to develop products more efficiently.
  • Hire and develop top engineering talent.
  • Continuously improve the results and outputs of the electrical engineering function.
  • Influence product strategy and the holistic functioning of Hardware Engineering.
  • Ensure electrical systems are designed for high-volume production with a balance of performance and cost.
  • Oversee the entire product life cycle of electrical components, from concept to final ECO.
