About The Position

HDR is seeking an Electrical Engineering Leader to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in Folsom or Walnut Creek, CA. Engineering Leaders at HDR influence culture, morale, and recruiting, while also providing technical leadership in project pursuits and delivery. They possess deep engineering expertise and understand how cross-discipline teams function, using these skills to positively impact business success. The Electrical Engineering Leader will provide electrical engineering expertise, supervision, and mentorship, and will be responsible for electrical systems design across various markets including Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Federal, Resources, Transportation, Health Care, Technology, and Commercial. This role involves managing the Northern California BES electrical team, including staff development, workflow, forecasting, proposals, scheduling, profitability, morale, and quality control. The leader will also function as a technical lead on projects, selecting, training, developing, and managing technical personnel, and recruiting talent to support the growth of the electrical section. Responsibilities include administrative oversight of the group, technical service functions, leading coordination with other disciplines, direct client involvement in project production, and implementing company policies. As a Technical Lead, they will coordinate with multidiscipline design teams throughout the project lifecycle, from planning to construction administration, and will be responsible for developing construction drawings, specifications, supporting calculations, and reviewing shop drawings. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, collaborative, possesses strong leadership skills, and is driven to deliver high-quality, technically sound electrical engineering designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired
  • Electrical PE licensure in California

Responsibilities

  • Providing electrical engineering expertise, supervising, and mentoring.
  • Producing electrical systems design for a variety of markets.
  • Responsible for the operation of the Northern California Building Engineering Services (BES) electrical team including staff development, workflow and forecasting, proposals and level of effort, scheduling, profitability, morale, and quality control.
  • Functioning as a technical lead on projects in addition to staff management responsibilities.
  • Selecting, training, developing, and managing technical personnel.
  • Helping identify/recruit talented staff to enable our electrical section to grow.
  • Being administratively responsible for the group and technical service functions.
  • Leading and coordinating services with other disciplines.
  • Being directly involved with clients in project production and related issues.
  • Implementing, monitoring, and supporting company policy.
  • Coordinating and working closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects.
  • Responsible for the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations.
  • Reviewing shop drawings during construction.
  • Taking responsibility for area coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers.
  • Participating in delivery of project services to meet client expectations.
  • Collaborating on business class efforts with area operations, marketing and project management.
  • Participating in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews.
  • Participating in business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation.
  • Working cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts.
  • Assisting in the responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
  • May function as an Assistant Project Manager and assist in responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities.
  • Assisting with administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and leading and coordinating services with other sections.
  • Being involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews.
  • Being directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues.
  • Assisting in ensuring that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system.
  • Assisting in the selection, training, development and management of technical personnel.
  • Working cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts.
  • Performing other duties as needed.
