About The Position

As a summer 2027 engineering student intern with Olsson's Substation and Power Generation (Power Delivery) Team, you will perform meaningful, hands-on, real-world work that will transform your classroom experience and help you envision your future career. Depending on your area of interest you could learn things like CAD design processes and standards, physical arrangement and protection for medium voltage >1kV, High voltage >69,000V, and Extra high voltage >230kV systems, protection schemes, control wiring and fiber communications, basic relaying, fault identification and isolation, physical arrangement, air insulation clearances, lightning protection analysis, load breaking mechanisms, conductor ampacities, electrical studies including basic electrical fault force analysis, basic grounding safety studies, and basic load flow studies.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Revit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Perform meaningful, hands-on, real-world work in substation and power generation engineering.
  • Learn CAD design processes and standards.
  • Gain experience with physical arrangement and protection for various voltage systems (>1kV, >69,000V, >230kV).
  • Understand protection schemes, control wiring, and fiber communications.
  • Learn about basic relaying, fault identification and isolation.
  • Study physical arrangement, air insulation clearances, and lightning protection analysis.
  • Explore load breaking mechanisms and conductor ampacities.
  • Conduct basic electrical studies, including fault force analysis, grounding safety, and load flow studies.
