Your unique talents will help patients on their journey to wellness. We are searching for the best talent for Electrical Engineering Interns within Robotics R&D. This internship is based in Santa Clara, California and offers a unique opportunity for students passionate about electrical engineering design, development, and integration into medical robotics. Electrical engineering interns will work alongside other engineering domains such as mechanical, mechatronics, controls, software, and clinical engineering. This will support the prototyping, development, test, and production of surgical robotic platforms that will improve patient outcomes worldwide. As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will design, prototype, test and integrate multi-layer PCBA's for use in a complex medical device system. You will work with across engineering functions to make contributions in the fields of robotics, surgical instruments, and more. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and opportunities for project growth within the team as we progress towards realizing our vision. This internship track covers a range of electrical engineering roles, including design, assembly, manufacturing, and test. Responsibilities will vary depending on the specific project, team, or role, providing a broad experience in robotics hardware development.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited program pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or similar degree and returning to an academic program after the completion of the internship.
  • Basic understanding and experience with oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, multimeters.
  • Fundamental knowledge of circuit design theory and general electrical engineering principals.
  • Ability to analyze problems and derive thoughtful solutions by working with your team members.
  • Self-starter with proven examples of engaging in self-directed learning and remaining productive with minimal support.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) and during hours agreed upon with the hiring manager.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 reflective of all coursework
  • Commitment to June 1 – August 20, 2027, or June 21 – September 10, 2027, term dates to align with cohort
  • Permanent US work authorization without the need for sponsorship now, or in the future (The company does not provide sponsorship for employment visa status. Students currently in the country on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT require future sponsorship).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and adopt new AI tools and platforms to meet evolving project needs.
  • Basic understanding of medical device development and design control.
  • Prior prototyping design and/or firmware design.
  • Experience with basic scripting in Python or Matlab.
  • Experience with PCB design software such as Altium, Eagle, or KiKad.
  • Prior internship or Co-op experience recommended

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prototype PCAs (PCBAs) for implementation in robotic elements, subsystems and testing fixtures.
  • Deliver documentation to support designs of PCAs in medical devices such as technical reviews, engineering studies, test results, and architecture documents.
  • Work alongside senior engineers and mentors to develop reliable designs for various robotic tasks.
  • Test, debug, and perform root cause analysis of issues identified during bench testing and system integration.
  • Generate and present design concepts, perform design reviews to team members
  • Participate in clinical assessments of robotic devices in inanimate anatomical models
