About The Position

HX5 is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join their team in Brook Park, Ohio, in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center. The selected candidate will provide engineering test support for the technological development of advanced Stirling converter concepts, which convert linear oscillating motion into electrical power. The engineer will support the design, development, testing, and troubleshooting of test stations for Stirling converters in support of radioisotope power systems development. This includes identifying methodologies, instrumentation, and supporting test equipment, as well as setting up test hardware, data systems, and related support equipment, and evaluating and documenting test results. The engineer will also support Stirling converter system testing in various labs including the Stirling Research Lab, the Structural Dynamics Lab, the EMI lab, and thermal/vacuum test facilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to configure electrical circuits, commercial/industrial data acquisition systems, power supplies, and instrumentation for testing.
  • Knowledge to configure and use multimeters, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, and signal conditioning.
  • Strong diagnostic skills for electrical faults and system anomalies.
  • Ability to write test plans, procedures, schematics, and detailed reports.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency.
  • Ability to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NI PXIe data acquisition systems.
  • Conceptual understanding of operating and preparing test setups to measure efficiency of electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanically derived electrical power generation, power management, and distribution systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering test support for technological development of advanced Stirling converter concepts.

  • Support the set-up of test hardware, data systems, and related support equipment.
  • Evaluate and document test results.
