About The Position

Fluidstack is hiring an Electrical Engineer for Power Systems R&D to engineer the electrical side of behind-the-meter generation, including collection, interconnection, and integration with data centers. The role involves designing the electrical balance of plant—including generator connections, transformers, and switchgear—for fast-build plants; running studies for islanded and grid-parallel operation, including stability, grounding, and protection coordination; and electrically integrating storage and generation into a controllable campus system. Fluidstack builds and operates data centers and power infrastructure to deliver large-scale compute. The company describes its operating approach as emphasizing autonomy, urgency, first-principles reasoning, and work on infrastructure for AI. The engineering team, stakeholders, and most work are based in Austin, Texas. Fluidstack strongly prefers Austin and works in a hybrid model, but is open to other locations for the right role and candidate. Regular travel is expected, at 25% or more depending on business needs.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering for power generation, microgrids, or utility-scale storage, including generator interconnection, power system studies, and plant commissioning.
  • Experience engineering electrical systems for power generation, microgrids, or utility-scale storage.
  • Experience designing generator interconnections and the studies behind them.
  • Understanding of islanded operation and its effects on protection and stability.
  • Experience integrating inverter-based resources with rotating machines.
  • Experience taking plant designs through commissioning.
  • Comfort with regular travel; expect 25% or more depending on business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Microgrid controls.
  • Grid codes and interconnection standards.
  • PSCAD or PSSE.
