About The Position

Amentum is seeking a mid- to senior-level Electrical Engineer for a full-time, onsite position in Springfield, Virginia. The role involves designing, developing, fabricating, testing, troubleshooting, and integrating custom electrical, electronic, and RF systems for operational and laboratory environments. The engineer will work with engineers, developers, and government stakeholders to evaluate technologies, conduct laboratory tests, and develop hardware solutions across the full lifecycle—from concepts and prototypes through testing, deployment, and field sustainment. The position supports RF antenna and circuit design, embedded systems, precision assembly and rework, component-level troubleshooting, laboratory operations, system integration, and engineering documentation. It requires an active Top Secret U.S. government clearance with SCI eligibility; U.S. citizenship is required to maintain the clearance. The role is non-remote and may involve occasional schedule flexibility, after-hours or short-term shift work, regular travel of up to 25%, and short-duration worldwide deployments in potentially austere environments.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret U.S. government clearance with SCI eligibility; U.S. citizenship is required to maintain the clearance.
  • At least four years of experience in electrical engineering, electronics, RF systems, or related hardware engineering disciplines.
  • Extensive experience designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting RF and electronic systems.
  • Experience designing custom RF antennas and matching networks for specialized applications, including use of antenna design software.
  • Experience designing printed circuit boards using Altium Designer or equivalent electronic CAD software.
  • Experience programming embedded microcontrollers and developing firmware for electronic control systems.
  • Proficiency in precision micro-miniature soldering, PCB rework, and component-level troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Experience operating spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, and power supplies.
  • Experience tuning, testing, characterizing, and optimizing RF antennas, filters, and wireless communication systems.
  • Knowledge of RF propagation, impedance matching, transmission lines, electromagnetic principles, and antenna performance measurements.
  • Experience designing and integrating sensors, embedded controllers, power management systems, and RF communications hardware.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, FeatureCAM, or similar mechanical CAD software for enclosure design and hardware integration.
  • Experience supporting prototype development, engineering testing, and hardware validation.
  • Ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including the ability to diagnose hardware failures to the component level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of detailed technical documentation and communication with engineers and government customers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Ability to work onsite in Springfield, Virginia, and flex hours occasionally based on customer support requirements.
  • Ability to travel regularly, up to 25%, and deploy worldwide for short durations not exceeding 30 days.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods in office, laboratory, industrial, or field environments and lift materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must pass requisite physical examinations, comply with applicable theater entry requirements, and maintain deployability status.
