Electrical Engineer

ICEYE USIrvine, CA
$145,000 - $175,000

About The Position

At ICEYE, we design, build and operate the largest fleet of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites in the world. Using advanced technology, our constellation collects topographical data about any location on Earth, day or night, through any weather conditions. Headquartered in Southern California, our customers are society’s heroes – intelligence professionals, warfighters, first responders, and scientific researchers. As a trusted mission partner, the United States and its allies depend on us for critical information when it matters most. Role Description The Electrical Engineer will play a critical role as the discipline that ties all the payload systems together. They will be responsible for absorbing relevant historical data on ICEYE’s payloads before assisting the director in translating that knowledge into a design. They will be in charge of and guide the design of all electrical interfaces and harnessing. They will also be required to define the test protocol of the payload prior to delivery and while mounted to the bus prior to launch. Success in the role requires deep technical knowledge of spacecraft design, and ideally in ISR payloads. They will also need to have strong technical leadership skills. Deep understanding of guidance navigation and control aspects as it pertains to mission design will be required to ensure that they can understand the design constraints of the payload as it pertains to the mission performance.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in spacecraft electrical design and avionics development.
  • Proven experience with spacecraft power systems, harnessing, and bus interfaces.
  • Strong background in system-level integration and testing, including environmental testing (vibe, TVAC, EMI/EMC).
  • Familiarity with spacecraft GNC constraints as they pertain to payload performance.
  • Experience developing ICDs and leading payload-to-bus electrical integration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ISR payloads.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, FPGAs, or avionics board design.
  • Familiarity with design for test (DFT) and test automation frameworks.
  • Experience with system-level trades and productization of spacecraft subsystems.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Own the payload electrical architecture, including power distribution, harnessing, avionics interfaces, and data buses.
  • Define, maintain, and enforce interface control documents (ICDs) between the payload and the host spacecraft bus.
  • Lead development of payload electrical test protocols, including integration, environmental, and pre/post integration verification.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, RF, and software teams to ensure electrical design decisions align with system-level requirements.
  • Support system trade studies related to power, thermal, and GNC constraints.
  • Troubleshoot electrical anomalies during integration and test.
  • Generate and maintain design documentation, schematics, and engineering reports.

Benefits

  • Other benefits include health coverage, flexible PTO - plus extra fun perks!
