Electrical engineer - Avionics Product Development

BLUE ORIGIN•Seattle, WA
•$130,706 - $182,988

About The Position

Blue Origin is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the development and operations of New Glenn, a reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. As part of a small team, the engineer will own end-to-end product development as the responsible engineer for line-replaceable units (LRUs), which control important rocket functions. The role involves working with design, test, systems, integration, software, and control engineering disciplines throughout the product lifecycle, from conception through flight-ready hardware. The position contributes to safe human spaceflight and requires a commitment to Blue Origin’s mission, quality, learning, problem solving, and collaboration. The engineer will develop and integrate LRU assemblies that control New Glenn subsystems, including actuators and sensors, and lead integrated-assembly qualification testing in demanding environmental conditions. The role also supports requirement definition and verification, resolves technical problems throughout the product lifecycle, and collaborates with avionics subsystem teams to assess capabilities, risks, and opportunities and develop solutions. The listed base pay range for Washington applicants is $130,706.00–$182,987.70; ranges at other sites may differ. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. Applicants must meet the stated U.S. citizenship or immigration-status eligibility requirements. A standard background check is required for all positions, with additional checks or credentials applicable to certain job profiles.

  • Passion for hands-on problem solving and avionics integration and test.
  • Ability to work independently on rapid development programs.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet and SPI protocols; complex computational devices used to monitor sensors and drive actuators; and analog/digital filters, including their design, development, and verification.
  • Highly organized and safety- and quality-conscious, with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Experience using Altium or similar tools to design complex aerospace boards.
  • Experience with scripting and programming, analysis, simulation, or modeling tools such as Python, C, C++, MATLAB, Simulink, or SPICE.

Responsibilities

  • Own development and integration of LRU assemblies that control New Glenn subsystems, including electromechanical or electrohydraulic actuators and sensors.
  • Own qualification testing at the integrated assembly level in radiation, temperature, vibration, and EMI/EMC environments, in accordance with MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 standards.
  • Support stakeholders with requirement definition and verification activities.
  • Apply technical expertise to problem solving throughout the product lifecycle, including concept, definition, design, verification, and release to production.
  • Collaborate with avionics subsystems to identify technology capabilities, risks, opportunities, and challenges, and develop solutions.
