About The Position

Electrical Engineering is recognized within Air Liquide as a Core Technology and is expected to provide in house expertise on all electrical matters. This position operates on a North American basis for operations and projects support. This position will be an integral part of implementing a robust Compliance Program for NERC/FERC. This individual is responsible for helping manage internal and external compliance reporting, providing compliance advice and assistance, conducting compliance investigations, ensuring electrical maintenance documentation and inspections are made timely and the compliance process by monitoring and surveillance. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, required
  • Understanding of medium/high voltage motors and distribution systems
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEC, ISA, NEC, IEEE, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry regulatory rules and regulations (FERC and NERC); U.S. state regulatory requirements and administrative procedures.
  • Quickly learns new relevant industry, legal and regulatory information and applies knowledge to specific issues or situations.
  • Knowledge of ERCOT nodal markets and requirements
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 5+ years in industrial electrical design and/or operations.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft office application
  • Ability to work with other engineering groups within Company, utilize Company’s engineering computer tools and quickly become familiar with Company’s electric system, construction methods and design standards.
  • Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor changes to FERC and NERC rules to ensure compliance by the company with policies and applicable regulations and laws.
  • Report results to management and make recommendations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Maintain electronic maintenance records for electrical equipment for filing to ensure that regulatory and compliance reports are filed timely and correctly
  • Provide guidance to the compliance team concerning issues related to NERC/FERC policies, procedures and standards and escalate issues to management or other functional areas as needed.
  • Identify engineered resolutions to recurring electrical issues within LI
  • Lead and participate in electrical engineering activities that improve the reliability of Air Liquide assets and optimize maintenance costs
  • Responsible for the operations and maintenance support of electrical power distribution systems, including high voltage substations, transformers, switchgear, motors, motor control centers, lighting, grounding, electrical wiring, and hazardous area classification.
  • Provide electrical engineering support for Air Liquide America operating plants and perform electrical engineering for operations support
  • Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Production, and Project Managers.
  • Establishes standards, national agreements, supplier agreements, electrical safety, system protection and provides all electrical engineering services for Operations and Production facilities
  • Perform electrical calculations, relay settings, engineers, and preliminarily designs changes to support reliability improvement projects.
  • The successful applicant will be responsible for the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on industrial electrical power distribution systems, including: stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, arc flash, motor starting, power factor, harmonic analysis and other related studies.
  • Perform all phases of protection engineering including tasks such as: develop and maintain system models, calculate available fault current and circuit breaker interrupting duty, determine and issue relay settings, maintain complete records of settings and calculations, etc.
  • Assist with engineering studies and investigations and assists with preparing oral and written reports.
  • Establish and maintain equipment condition assessment information for high yards and high voltage motors
  • Provide technical assistance to field personnel in the areas of high voltage distribution equipment and high voltage motors
  • Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
  • Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
  • Participate in improving the electrical safety program for Air Liquide.
  • Perform electrical Audits and participates in incident investigations
  • Perform Arc-Flash studies
  • Attend conferences and seminars as appropriate to share ideas and issues with other industry protection engineers, keep abreast of the latest developments, advance the state of protective relaying, and promote the interests of Air Liquide.
  • Provide technical guidance to operating plants from a corporate level on Local, National, & International Codes, Standards, Policies, and Procedures
