Electrical Engineer / Counter-UAS

ATSC IES INC•Gilbert, AZ

About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, and integration of Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS). The role focuses on electrical architecture, power distribution, signal integrity, and integration of advanced sensor and countermeasure technologies. The ideal candidate has experience with complex, mission-critical systems in defense, aerospace, or similar high-reliability environments. The engineer will design electrical systems and architectures for C-UAS platforms; support integration of radar, RF detection systems, EO/IR sensors, communications equipment, and countermeasure technologies; create schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs, and electrical documentation; and conduct electrical analysis and subsystem testing. The role also involves collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams, vendor and manufacturer coordination, standards compliance, field testing, debugging, and deployment support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical design and system integration.
  • Strong understanding of power systems, analog and digital circuitry, and embedded interfaces.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or KiCad.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC principles and mitigation techniques.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, and CAN.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with C-UAS, UAV, electronic warfare, or radar systems.
  • Background in RF systems or high-frequency design considerations.
  • Experience with power electronics, battery systems, or ruggedized hardware.
  • Knowledge of SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) constraints for mobile or deployable systems.
  • Familiarity with FPGA-based systems or high-speed digital design.
  • Experience supporting environmental and qualification testing.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems and architectures for C-UAS platforms, including power distribution, signal routing, and grounding strategies.
  • Support integration of radar, RF detection systems, EO/IR sensors, communications equipment, and countermeasure technologies.
  • Create schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs, and electrical documentation.
  • Perform electrical analysis, including power budgets, noise and interference mitigation, and signal integrity assessments.
  • Collaborate with RF, software, mechanical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Support PCB design and review processes, including layout guidance for EMI/EMC performance.
  • Develop and execute test plans for electrical subsystems, including bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure compliance with military and industry standards, including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, and DO-160.
  • Interface with vendors and manufacturers for component selection, procurement, and production support.
  • Support field testing, debugging, and system deployment activities.
