About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. We're looking for an Electrical Engineer to focus on process development and electrical failure root cause analysis. As Engineer for a Line Replaceable unit at Amazon Leo, you will be directly responsible for failure root cause and analysis, production process development and improvement of a key module on our next generation spacecraft. You’ll be a leading technical voice for a team of manufacturing engineers working on the product, solving challenging technical problems associated with delivering an ultra-high-performing optical, electrical, and mechanical module to space. You will serve as a key connection between design/development, factory operations, quality engineering, program management, vendor and more as you drive the manufacturing processes from initial production introduction to full rate production. You’ll solve complex industrial challenges associated with balancing production velocity, exceptional quality, and cost competitive production concepts while ensuring smooth technical execution of current production operations. You’ll be a key animating force in the increase in production capacity through vision & execution of capital investment for production scaling & automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in CAD skills, including being capable of developing an integrated automation layout unassisted
  • 3+ years of experience with electro-optical hardware development, analog and mixed-signal board-level design, and high-speed circuit design.
  • 3+ years of experience with design or test of circuit boards with complex microcontrollers, system-on-chip (SOCs), or FPGAs.

Nice To Haves

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years’ industry experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality metrics, process characterization and mapping, Product Quality / Reliability / Improvement techniques, LEAN Manufacturing, DFM/DFT, and Continuous Process Improvement.
  • Understand Design for Testability, Design for Manufacturability.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software tools for test automation (e.g. NI, dSPACE, Python, C/C++, Labview, etc.)
  • Digital interface protocols (SPI, I2C, LVDS, CAN, Ethernet) and use cases
  • Data converter (ADC/DAC) electrical characteristics, architectures, and design tradeoffs (SNR, ENOB, linearity, settling time).

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, develop, and improve production processes (assembly, integration, test processes) through collaboration of a team of manufacturing engineers.
  • Lead production electrical failure RCAs and troubleshooting. Support production ramp activities requiring EE analysis both at vendor and in-house production facilities.
  • Serve as a technical lead on electrical system. Drive yield improvement through process change.
  • Develops standard rework procedures, test coverage improvements, and PCBA level DFM feedback.
  • Investigate and introduce new manufacturing test technology and methodology to enhance production efficiency.
