About The Position

The R&D Electrical Engineer applies electronics and engineering principles to develop, verify, assemble, and document electronic systems used to test and produce engine management components. The role researches existing and emerging technologies for potential business applications and assists with the design, verification, and production of automotive sensor products. It also creates PCBs, schematics, wiring diagrams, system layouts, and mechanical drawings for test-system builds; establishes sensor-testing tolerances; and applies technical expertise to solve engineering-design problems.

Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of electrical design engineering principles and best practices.
  • Ability to create electronic designs and documentation accurately and efficiently using applicable software and established design practices.
  • Strong understanding of oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and other measurement devices as needed.
  • Ability to apply robust strategies to verify work accuracy throughout the design process.
  • Preference is weighted toward documented, successful hands-on electronics design experience and knowledge of its processes.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is ideal.
  • Experience with PLC, PIC, Python, or C++ programming, particularly for microcontrollers.
  • Automotive experience or knowledge, especially involving engines and electronic sensor components.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with design teams and stakeholders to determine electronics applications and requirements.
  • Produce accurate, high-quality work that meets design parameters and efficiency expectations.
  • Create schematics and PCB layouts using applicable design programs.
  • Design compatible electrical and electronic subsystems down to the component level.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, design, and modify circuitry and systems used to produce and evaluate vehicle sensor components.
  • Design or assist with PLC and microcontroller designs for test automation of engine operations and functions.
  • Research and develop electronic test-evaluation criteria for vehicle engine management components.
  • Conduct design reviews of proposed developments with design teams and stakeholders at key intervals.
  • Collaborate with design teams to address concerns and gather ideas and practices for projects.
  • Prepare spreadsheets to analyze, display, and share data.
  • Generate operational procedures, specifications, diagrams, and other documentation.
  • Provide expertise on sensor design and testing issues to support company needs.
  • Use user feedback and data to upgrade, improve, or repair existing machines as appropriate.
  • Stay current on technology advancements, design trends, and engineering best practices.
  • Ensure products are user-friendly, environmentally safe, and compliant with industry safety standards.
