About The Position

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for sustaining engineering associated with the development of electronic hardware including user interfaces control boards and other sub-systems for consumer and commercial cardiovascular and strength equipment. This position will work closely with other engineers (junior and senior) as well as technicians to enact quality improvements, drive cost reductions, provide support for end-of-life components and perform other sustaining engineering tasks as necessary. The candidate will support resolution of field issues, focusing on high warranty items. This is an electrical engineering position within the Life Fitness / Hammer Strength Electrical team working across all teams so they will report to the director. This is a hybrid role , based out of the Nieto-Jones Performance Center in Schaumburg, IL . #LI-Hybrid – Monday and Friday are remote, Tuesday through Thursday are in-office collaboration days.

Requirements

  • Ability to work across cross-functional teams to resolve issues
  • Ability to read and analyze electrical circuits/schematics is required
  • Strong planning, organization and communication are a requirement
  • Must either have data analysis skills or a desire to learn them
  • B.S. Electrical Engineering from an accredited 4 year institution is required
  • 1 to 3 years of experience preferred, internship experience counts

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using problem solving tools such as DFSS, 8D and A3 are preferred
  • Must have a willingness to learn from senior engineers while taking charge of process improvements

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with global field support staff over e-mail and conference calls to troubleshoot hardware issues.
  • Perform engineering level failure analysis of field return units and components.
  • De-bug at system level and board level to determine consistent failure modes.
  • Drive timely improvements from analysis of returns to prevent further reoccurrence in the field.
  • Create troubleshooting documents such as knowledge base articles and service bulletins.
  • Collaborate within and outside the electrical engineering teams on cost reduction opportunities.
  • Perform and document detailed board level validation test on proposed sustaining changes
  • Travel to customer sites and manufacturing locations, between 10-20% of time
