About The Position

The engineer will lead teams/projects that solve moderately complex problems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Able to work independently, with guidance. Position reports to the UI DER Unit Manager and support department needs as required.

Requirements

  • BS or BT in Engineering related field and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Basic Knowledge of the various operating systems and programs used by the department.
  • Diagnostic and problem-solving skills to detect unique technical and analytical problems.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate highly technical concepts.
  • Extensive interpersonal skills to work as part of a team.
  • General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery.
  • Effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions.
  • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers
  • Ability to devise solutions to both common and complex problems/challenges.
  • Where appropriate, technical and operational experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility environment.

Responsibilities

  • Solve moderately complex Distributed Generation (DG) problems.
  • Utilizes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. (e.g. Customer generators, photovoltaic systems, fuel cells).
  • Approve, maintain, & understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line diagrams, site plans).
  • Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of complex level of difficulty using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
  • Manage and provide direction for resources outside of the department/company.
  • Possess knowledge within DG industry and interpret processes and standards related to DG systems.
  • Recommend solutions and best practices where appropriate.
  • Perform standard electrical engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches.
  • Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.
  • Solve straightforward electrical engineering problems.
  • Analyze possible solutions and assess each using standard procedures related to lines and power engineering.
  • Support technical requests from current and proposed customers with regards to generator interconnections.
