About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and tasks to give people more free time. This involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe, home-friendly form factor. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO, a home robot designed to operate in real-world environments alongside people. The Prototyping team is responsible for turning ideas into physical reality, working closely with Industrial Design and Engineering to rapidly develop, build, and evaluate physical systems and components. They are seeking an Electrical Engineer to develop and validate electrical prototypes for NEO, bridging the gap between electrical design and physical builds through hands-on assembly, testing, and debugging.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of experience in electrical engineering or a related hands-on hardware development role.
  • Experience developing and debugging electrical prototypes, harnesses, or cable assemblies.
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics and wiring documentation.
  • Experience using measurement tools to test continuity and diagnose electrical faults.
  • Experience working with technicians or fabrication partners to build, test, and iterate on hardware.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with on-robot electrical debugging and rework.
  • Familiarity with IPC-620 acceptance criteria or IPC-7711 / 7722 rework standards.
  • Experience improving harness builds through fixturing, documentation, or design-for-manufacturability work.
  • Familiarity with power, signal, shielding, and grounding considerations in physical assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate electrical prototypes and harnessing solutions for NEO.
  • Turn electrical designs into reliable, buildable hardware.
  • Bridge the gap between electrical design and physical builds.
  • Use learnings from prototypes, testing, and rework to improve future iterations.
  • Develop electrical prototypes, wire harnesses, and cable assembly designs that support testing and iteration on NEO.
  • Translate schematics and wiring diagrams into clear build documentation.
  • Work with technicians to resolve issues found during assembly.
  • Plan and run continuity and fault-isolation testing, identifying opens, shorts, and connection issues before hardware moves downstream.
  • Debug issues on prototypes and on the robot, then make practical design or documentation changes based on findings.
  • Improve recurring builds through better documentation, fixturing, and design-for-manufacturability work with the wider team.
  • Partner across engineering and fabrication to move from early prototypes toward reliable, repeatable assemblies.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave
  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) options
  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)
  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health, financial, and personal support
  • Onsite snacks and catered lunches
