About The Position

Hatch is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our growing team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As part of our global engineering organization, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of industry experts delivering complex and impactful projects across the energy, infrastructure, mining, and industrial sectors. In this role, you will contribute to all phases of project delivery, from concept development and detailed design through construction support and commissioning. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Eng. or equivalent).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada or eligible for registration in Nova Scotia.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design and project delivery within a consulting, industrial, infrastructure, or EPCM environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, design practices, and industry standards.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, reports, and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems, distribution systems, industrial facilities, and engineering design processes.
  • Familiarity with electrical design software and engineering tools.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within established schedules.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical engineering calculations, studies, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Develop and review electrical system designs, including power distribution, protection and control, grounding, lighting, and related systems.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables such as single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, equipment lists, technical specifications, data sheets, and construction packages.
  • Participate in feasibility studies, system assessments, design criteria development, and value engineering initiatives.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and Hatch quality procedures.
  • Support the development of as-built documentation and project close-out deliverables.
  • Support the Engineering Manager and Lead Electrical Engineer in the successful delivery of projects with respect to scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with internal multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, mechanical, process, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Track engineering progress and contribute to the timely completion of project milestones.
  • Assist in identifying project risks and developing practical engineering solutions.
  • Participate in engineering reviews and design optimization efforts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review vendor documentation and shop drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements and engineering intent.
  • Support procurement, fabrication, installation, and construction activities through technical reviews and engineering guidance.
  • Participate in field inspections, site visits, commissioning activities, and start-up support as required.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues encountered during construction and commissioning.
  • Support quality management processes and ensure engineering deliverables meet Hatch and client quality expectations.
  • Participate in design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination reviews, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety in design and contribute to Hatch's safety-first culture.
  • Continuously expand technical knowledge and remain current with industry standards, emerging technologies, and engineering best practices.
