About The Position

Electrical Engineer Primary Purpose and Function The Electrical Engineer is responsible for processing Requests for Engineering Quotations (RFEQs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and Sales Orders (SOs) in accordance with ERP requirements to support order processing. This role designs, integrates, tests, and troubleshoots electrical systems and peripheral equipment that support Okuma’s manufacturing solutions, while ensuring quality, cost control, and standardization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 3–7 years of hands‑on experience designing, troubleshooting, and improving electrical systems in an industrial, manufacturing, or automation environment
  • Comfortable navigating the engineering paperwork side of life—RFEQs, ECOs, Sales Orders, and ERP workflows won’t scare you
  • Solid experience creating real‑world electrical designs and documentation, including wiring diagrams, BOMs, and functional specifications
  • Enjoys getting hands‑on to troubleshoot electromechanical systems and dig into root causes—not just pass problems along
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, motor drives, and industrial communication systems, including basic setup, programming, and troubleshooting
  • Able to own standard designs independently, while collaborating with the team on more complex or custom challenges
  • Naturally curious, analytical, and motivated to make designs better, simpler, and more standardized
  • Clear communicator who can partner effectively with sales, service, manufacturing, and suppliers
  • BS Electrical Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 3-7 years of electrical design experience preferred (prior software coding experience preferred)
  • Skilled at progressing from problem statement to well-documented and tested designs
  • Understanding and applications of national and international standards such as ISO, OSHA, ANSI standards
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills

  • Experience working within ERP‑driven engineering environments
  • Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with sales, service, and manufacturing teams
  • Strong problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills

Responsibilities

  • Process Requests for Engineering Quotations (RFEQs) to support sales and project execution
  • Provide direct technical support to sales, service, distributors, and partners as required
  • Develop and maintain electrical designs for manufacturing solutions, including peripheral integration
  • Create and maintain design documentation, including: Functional specifications Installation instructions Wiring diagrams and wiring tables Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Process and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Conduct investigations and root cause analysis for Notifications of Problem (NOPs)
  • Drive continuous improvement of electrical designs, systems, and processes
  • Support standardization efforts, including common components and design practices
  • Create and maintain project schedules to meet delivery commitments
  • Perform conceptual and detailed electrical design work
  • Support U.S. sourcing of components and systems
  • Manage cost control and cost reduction initiatives while meeting cost objectives
  • Evaluate and specify electrical and electromechanical components
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical systems, components, and integrated solutions
  • Perform basic setup, programming, and troubleshooting of: PLCs Motor drives Industrial communication systems
