About The Position

Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) is seeking an Electrical Engineer with a background in satellite communications to support two-way satellite time transfer (TWSTT) and fiber time transfer (FTT) systems at the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) in Washington, D.C. The role involves the design, implementation, and performance validation of TWSTT and FTT systems, and their integration into existing timing infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate with a team to monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain these systems, ensuring optimal performance. Responsibilities also include investigating new time transfer approaches and improvements to existing techniques. The position requires on-site work at USNO, with potential travel within and outside the continental United States. An active SECRET security clearance is mandatory, with the ability to obtain a TOP SECRET/SCI clearance. The engineer will work closely with other CPI contractors and civilian members of the Precise Time Department, providing updates to the Coordinated Time Transfer division chief.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of EE fundamentals: circuit theory, power, RF, etc.
  • RF and satellite communications theory.
  • RF system analysis and link budgets.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment, e.g. oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers.
  • Python programming.
  • Active SECRET security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for DoD contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • RF over fiber and optical link testing.
  • Familiarity with photonics.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implementation, and performance validation of TWSTT and FTT systems.
