About The Position

The Saskatchewan Research Council’s (SRC) Rare Earth Elements Commercial Division is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operation of electrical and controls systems for REE Commercial projects. This role applies professional engineering knowledge to deliver technical solutions and support project execution.

Requirements

  • Electrical engineering degree with a minimum of 5 years experience
  • Registered or ability to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) is required
  • Previous experience with medium and low voltage system in heavy industry, processing, or mining
  • Knowledge of industrial power systems, MCC Panels, switchgears, and instrumentation interfaces
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project and operational teams
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Adaptable to changing project priorities and timelines while maintaining quality and safety standards
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop power distribution, control, and automation systems in support of REE Commercial projects and operations
  • Apply engineering principles to develop specifications for selection and procurement of electrical equipment and instrumentation systems
  • Participate in the development and review of single-line diagrams, load lists, Instrument Control Diagrams and electrical studies
  • Support the development of technical documentation, including design packages, specifications, and commissioning procedures
  • Ensure electrical safety standards across design, construction, and operations; performing short circuit calculations load analyses, LOTO, grounding, and isolation practices
  • Develop and implement electrical safety procedures, hazard assessments, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support project execution and ensure alignment with standards and schedules
  • Support construction and commissioning activities, including system/loop testing and troubleshooting
  • Assist in development of maintenance plans and reliability improvements for electrical & control systems
  • Assist in improving designs, procedures, and system performance based on operational feedback and project learnings
