Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science or equivalent that is able to qualify for P.Eng status with zero to three years of experience.
  • Proficiency in 2-D CAD drafting, with experience producing drawings to company or industry standards.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet programs like Excel for calculations, tracking, or data analysis.
  • Understanding of standards such as CEC (Canadian Electric Code) or other relevant standards like NEC, IEEE, IEC, ABS, Lloyds, DNV, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with suppliers and design team members.

  • Ability to verify the accuracy of drawings, ensuring precision in layout and design details is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret conceptual designs/calculations prepared by others, and complete analysis, layout and calculation details to satisfy project needs and specifications.
  • Take scope, design concept, specifications, schedules and budgeted hours
  • Apply developing expertise related to EMS-Tech Inc. equipment, systems and methods to advance projects.
  • Ability to size/select electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, cables, motor control centers, motors, control components, etc.
  • Develop computer skills using available software for lighting calculations, PLC Programming (various languages), HMI Programming (various languages), and VFD drive parameter setting, field device programming etc. Develop, in parallel, hand calculation methods to verify analysis work.
  • Develop CAD 2-D drafting skills using programs such as E3 Wireworks or AutoCAD. Produce drawings to EMS-Tech Inc. standards and develop an understanding of drawing presentation.
  • Understand fundamentals and develop expertise related to: CEC (Canadian Electric Code) or other recognized standard such as NEC, IEEE, IEC, ABS, Lloyds, DNV, etc.
  • Develop hand calculation methods as primary analysis tools
  • Develop analytical skills using spreadsheet programs such as Excel
  • May verify the accuracy of drawings prepared by other team members. May act as mentor for less experienced personnel working in a related capacity.
  • Prepare and check general arrangement and detail drawings.
  • Communicate effectively and accurately with suppliers and other design team members in both oral and written formats on technical matters as agreed upon with project engineer.
  • Develop technical report writing skills for component and equipment inspections.
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
