Electrical Engineer

FarcastSan Francisco, CA
$140,000 - $170,000Hybrid

About The Position

Our Goals At Farcast, we aim to improve global prosperity. We achieve this goal by building innovative products that enable access to information. Satellite internet is one of the most important ways to achieve this goal and to provide global connectivity coverage. However, the capacity of satellite internet services is limited by the quality and affordability of the devices consumers use to connect to satellites. These devices are called “user terminals†. Our mission is to bring unprecedented innovation to the user terminal industry. We believe our innovation will be key in making satellite internet accessible to everyone. Please join us if your goals align with ours! We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to make an immediate impact on the design of the Antenna Control Unit (ACU) for a next-generation phased array antenna for satellite communications. As an Electrical Engineer at Farcast, you will be responsible for delivering mixed-signal PCBAs supporting the antenna system. This includes power‑electronics design, digital‑interface implementation (I²C, SPI, Ethernet, UART), component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, and board‑level testing and validation. In this role, you will work closely with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to understand design trade-offs, propose and implement novel solutions, and support the transition to production. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated ownership of the full life cycle of mixed-signal PCBAs, including design, schematic capture, layout, component procurement, and interfacing with contract manufacturers and fab/assembly houses for board production.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge and experience with schematic capture and layout in Altium
  • Experience developing hardware for high-speed data transfer and managing associated timing and signal integrity requirements, including working knowledge of transmission line theory, impedance matching, reflections, crosstalk, and losses
  • Experience designing power management, distribution, and regulation circuitry, and general knowledge of power integrity concepts
  • Familiarity working with Contract Manufacturers for the manufacturing and assembly of PCBAs
  • Strong familiarity with PCBA manufacturing, including DFM/DFA
  • Demonstrated experience with general EE test equipment, including power supplies, loads, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, and soldering equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Additional schematic and layout experience using OrCAD / Allegro
  • Familiarity with designing and releasing electronics into large scale production, ensuring manufacturability and cost efficiency
  • Experience in laying out dense BGA components
  • Experience working with GNSS/INS systems, including antennas

Responsibilities

  • Design robust analog, digital, and power management circuit boards, schematics, and layouts suitable for high-volume and low-cost manufacturing
  • Drive system architecture decisions by analyzing power‑network requirements, thermal constraints, and component options, using structured trade studies to guide high‑level design choices.
  • Ensure successful PCBA manufacturing, including vendor coordination, DFM/DFT implementation, fabrication package release, build oversight, and resolution of assembly or yield issues.
  • Define and run comprehensive PCBA test plans, working closely with embedded software teams and leveraging lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, etc.) to validate functionality and diagnose issues.

Benefits

  • Meaningful company stock ownership
  • Unlimited PTO plus 20+ days of company shutdown
  • Parental leave designed by parents for parents
  • 401k with 5% company matching
  • $13,600 in annual perks (wellness, commute, and meals)
  • Individualized health, dental, and vision insurance plans for you and your family
