About The Position

Hellbender Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer to develop and verify electrical devices for functionality, safety, and efficiency. This role involves using design software for schematics and PCB layout, testing devices, and maintaining designs throughout their product life cycle. The engineer will focus on design, safety, sustainability, quality assurance, and manufacturability, including MCU and SOM PCB layout, RF communication layout, and design for manufacturing. The position supports consumer, industrial, and US DOD electronics, as well as electrical work in manufacturing cell design. Typical projects include intelligent sensor IoT products and robotics, with a scope including PCB and PCB stack designs for automated test and assembly, and automated test equipment design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and 5 yrs experience in PCB layout; or equivalent
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, MS degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design, project engineering and start-up of similar equipment
  • Experience with rechargeable batteries, cable harness, and board to board interconnect design, DC to DC converters, and communication protocols (CAN, ETHERNET, UART, SERIAL, I2C, SPI)
  • Knowledge of PCB layout for MCU and SOM interfaces
  • Knowledge of RF communication design
  • Experience with electrical design drafting and schematics
  • Experience designing with CAD software such as Altium
  • Troubleshooting experience such as board bring-up, interconnection problems like ground loops, EMI/EMC, or environmental issues
  • Experience with standard lab tools (DMM, Oscilloscope, Current Meters, Logic/Bus Analyzer)
  • Strong communication, organizing, planning, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft office products

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SMT device sensors including imagers preferred
  • Knowledge of drive control, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems preferred
  • Ability to work on US DOD ITAR controlled projects preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implement design requirements from customer use cases
  • Interact with contractors and customers using verbal and written communication
  • Document the electrical design and functional description for various systems
  • Technical purchasing specification and requisition
  • Fabrication and 1st article inspections
  • Develop and maintain project work schedules
  • Prepare cost estimates for internal / external customers
  • Inspect electrical components during and after the product installation
  • Failure analysis and resolution of electronic assemblies
  • Provide support for electrical work in the manufacturing cell design for internal manufacturing activities
  • Perform product design activity including MCU and SOM PCB layout, RF communication layout, and design for manufacturing
  • Responsible for design, implementation, verification, and maintenance of electronic products and parts for consumer, industrial, and US DOD electronics
