About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Orange, CA office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Electrical team. This role involves leading the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for a variety of projects including renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, transportation, and industrial applications. The engineer will be responsible for developing design documents and reports, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, preparing project specifications, cost estimates, and proposals, and supporting the growth of electrical engineering services. Additionally, the role includes assisting in mentoring and training junior staff.

Requirements

• 4+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards
• Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
• Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff

Nice To Haves

• Experience in utility-scale PV, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs
• Experience in engineering project management
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent
• Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent
• Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent
• Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, transportation, and industrial projects
• Responsible for the development of design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, equipment schematics and block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams
• Daily interaction and collaboration on multi-disciplinary teams, with interaction across Kimley-Horn offices
• Prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals, supporting the growth of electrical engineering service areas in the local market and across the country
• Assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our electrical engineering practice
