Electrical Engineer

SAIC•North Charleston, SC
•Onsite

About The Position

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, troubleshooting, testing, and in-service support of the Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2s) program at the customer site in North Charleston, South Carolina. The role focuses on electrical system architecture and power distribution for distributed maritime sensors and other complex, low-SWaP systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience.
  • Experience developing DC power-distribution architectures.
  • Experience programming microcontrollers to monitor system status and implement control systems that toggle power among subsystems or components.
  • Familiarity with UART, I2C, RS232, RS485, USB, and Ethernet protocols.
  • IoT experience with low-SWaP sensors and systems.
  • PCB design experience for DC power distribution in small, distributed IoT systems incorporating microcontroller-based power toggling, renewable energy, and modular design.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Power-distribution design for DC systems.
  • Power and signal PCB design.
  • Proven development of power-control systems for low-SWaP architectures to improve or maintain persistence on a power source.
  • Experience using microcontrollers and C++, microPython, circuitPython, or standard Python to interface with sensors, relays, and similar components.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy and integration of different technologies to improve system performance.
  • Familiarity with marine connectors and electrical systems in highly corrosive environments.
  • Experience developing system-level electrical architecture with minimal oversight.
  • Knowledge of standard RF principles.
  • Self-starter able to independently identify problems, develop solutions, and troubleshoot systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a modular power-distribution architecture for distributed maritime sensors.
  • Integrate voltage-level negotiation for subsystems, similar to USB-C Power Delivery.
  • Incorporate renewable energy solutions, including wave harnessing, solar, and Peltier technologies, into system architecture to improve persistence.
  • Perform power-budget analysis to inform power-system design and support sensing, communication, and edge-processing operations.
  • Develop signal and power PCB designs using best practices for trace routing, thermal management, signal isolation, and grounding.
