Electrical Engineer

Layup Parts•Huntington Beach, CA

About The Position

Layup Parts is a manufacturing technology company developing proprietary software, robotics, and advanced manufacturing systems to reduce manufacturing lead times. The Electrical Engineer will help develop manufacturing equipment and own the electrical systems that support the production floor. This hands-on, systems-level role spans industrial controls, electrical cabinets, wiring and harnessing, production equipment, and robotic systems. The engineer will collaborate with robotics, controls, mechanical, manufacturing, and facilities teams to troubleshoot equipment, improve existing machines, and design electrical systems for new projects. The role involves working directly with physical systems and diagnosing and resolving problems on the production floor. The position also supports production and facilities as the company expands and brings new equipment online, and helps establish electrical design, documentation, component-selection, and maintainability standards across the factory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience working with physical electrical or electromechanical systems; exceptional early-career candidates with significant hands-on project experience will also be considered.

  • Experience designing, building, troubleshooting, or integrating electrical systems at a system level.
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to troubleshoot complex problems methodically.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving production environment and collaborating across electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, and operations teams.
  • A hands-on, ownership-oriented approach from initial problem through working solution.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. government export-control eligibility criteria or be eligible to obtain required authorizations.

  • Experience working with cabinet, harness, or electrical fabrication vendors.
  • Formula SAE, Baja SAE, robotics teams, or similarly hands-on engineering project experience.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or production equipment in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain electrical systems across production equipment, robotic systems, and other factory-floor equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical issues and drive them through to resolution.
  • Specify electrical components and hardware for equipment upgrades, new machines, and robotics projects.
  • Design industrial electrical cabinets, control panels, wiring diagrams, and harnesses for new and existing equipment.
  • Work with cabinet and harness vendors to take designs through fabrication, assembly, and implementation.
  • Build, wire, modify, and bring up electrical systems in-house when needed.
  • Partner with robotics and controls engineers on robotics, industrial controls, sensors, actuators, and other factory robotics.
  • Support electrical needs across production and facilities as the company expands and brings new equipment online.
  • Help establish standards and best practices for electrical design, documentation, component selection, and maintainability across the factory.
