About The Position

Barr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our team in a part-time role. In this hybrid or remote role, you will support the Engineering and Design business group, working as part of multidisciplinary project teams to provide electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include design of substations, distribution, and transmission lines; power system studies; planning studies (construction work plans, long-range plans); and construction observation. Additionally, this person will provide municipalization analysis support and design and QA/QC work for substations, distribution, and transmission lines. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ideal candidate for this position is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their technical ability and project management expertise for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.

Requirements

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems.
  • Experience: at least 10 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization.
  • Software: computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Driver's license: possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 15 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain in one year.
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills.
  • Client-relationship and business-development skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with SKM Power Tools or ETAP software for power system studies.
  • Knowledge of and experience with utility system design and planning.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above.
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative.
  • A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
