About The Position

Barr is seeking a senior blasting consulting engineer to join our innovative and collaborative team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in supporting clients’ projects and this growing practice at Barr. Services will include consulting with clients and supporting projects related to blast design, vibration analysis, design and analysis, project management, technical trouble shooting, mine planning, reporting and documentation, and training. This role also involves mentoring and leading other team members while interfacing with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Work location: A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. A remote work arrangement refers to spending the majority of hours in a home office. Travel expectation: up to 40 percent domestic fieldwork, with an average of two days continuous job site presence. Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Requirements

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, or civil engineering with geotechnical emphasis. Graduate degree in geotechnical engineering; MS is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one is preferred
  • Experience: 20+ years of related experience.
  • Willingness and ability to regularly travel.
  • Technical skills: experience with blast design, vibration research and analysis, specification design, underwater blasting, drill and blast project management, technical trouble shooting, mine planning, blast plans, permit litigation, training, and investigations.
  • Business development: proven history of developing a portfolio of business and providing exceptional client service.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Driver’s license: possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Project leadership: oversee engineering investigation and design support tasks from the conceptual phase through design with an emphasis on advanced analyses, testing, and numerical modeling. Serve as the technical lead and point of contact for clients and internal team members. Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Business development: identify potential target clients, develop business development approaches, and assist with proposal preparation. Oversee field investigations and perform site visits, including dam safety inspections.
  • Technical analysis: oversee and review the preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Reporting and documentation: prepare technical reports, proposals, and design recommendations.
  • Team and client engagement: serve as a mentor and leader for other team members. Support business development and proposal writing.
