About The Position

Barr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our Salt Lake City office. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design business unit, working with multidisciplinary project teams and providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Project work will include the design of power and controls for power plants, refineries, mine processing facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities, as well as water and wastewater treatment facilities for municipal clients. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and client needs. They must be able to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative and demonstrate effective project organization and management skills.

Requirements

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field with academic coursework focused on power or control systems.
  • Licenses/certifications: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified or ability to obtain certification within one year.
  • Software: familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
  • Driver’s license: possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization.
  • Software: experience with automation systems such as Rockwell Automation Logix platform, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk software.
  • Experience with the power, fuels, mining, and/or manufacturing industries.
  • Understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Understanding of short-circuit analysis.
  • Familiarity with power studies using computer software (e.g., SKM, ETAP).

  • Technical knowledge: completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; writing proposals and reports; and communicating with clients.
  • Interpersonal savvy: effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships.
