General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We are hiring an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems to join our team in Rancho Bernardo. This position is responsible for supporting the Electrical Engineering sustainment team in resolving a wide range of advanced technical issues as well as a development and design of advanced power systems, including transformer design, motor controllers, power supplies, megawatt-scale inverters, and other high-performance components for both Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) and Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems (EMALS). The candidate will evaluate, interpret and resolve systems engineering problems to meet the design requirements. Under general direction with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving complex engineering challenges related to power systems. Assignments are outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely at completion. The engineer will initiate project planning and develop innovative designs to meet goals, while independently performing challenging engineering work with clear expectations. Responsibilities include documenting findings, presenting technical results, and representing the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single-component projects.
