Electrical Engineer

Atalco Gramercy•Gramercy, LA

About The Position

The Electrical Engineer will work at an alumina refinery to improve equipment reliability, manage change processes, and execute capital and improvement projects. The role leads root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures, champions continuous improvement, and manages projects through the Front-End Loaded (FEL) process. The engineer monitors and improves the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and onstream factor of plantwide electrical systems, including substations, power distribution, starters, VFDs, protection systems, drives and motors, and power and DCS interfacing systems. The role supports optimum system throughput and guides maintenance teams on practices to reduce failures, operating costs, and maintenance frequency. The position leads investigations into equipment failures and chronic reliability issues, facilitates cross-functional RCA sessions, tracks corrective actions, and assesses their effectiveness. It also owns, leads, or participates in the Management of Change (MoC) process for equipment modifications, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards in collaboration with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams. The engineer identifies and executes improvement opportunities, develops business cases, analyzes field data and failure trends, implements strategies to prevent repeat failures, and supports reliability-centered and predictive maintenance programs. Using the FEL methodology, the role leads projects from concept through execution and develops project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk assessments while coordinating internal stakeholders and external contractors. Performance is measured through RCA completion and corrective-action effectiveness; MoC timeliness, incidents, and documentation compliance; asset reliability, downtime, and availability; project schedule, budget, and FEL compliance; stakeholder satisfaction; and continuous-improvement initiatives, value creation, and field-data collection targets.
