Electrical Engineer - Spacecraft Avionics II / III

Firefly Aerospace•Cedar Park, TX

About The Position

Firefly Aerospace is hiring an Electrical Engineer - Spacecraft Avionics at level II or III to design, develop, test, and integrate spacecraft avionics systems. The role includes developing avionics systems and requirements verification, planning and executing component- and system-level test campaigns, and helping design and develop hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems to verify functionality before spacecraft integration. The engineer collaborates with software, mechanical, propulsion, fluids, and structures teams to ensure integrated systems function properly. The position includes developing and executing schedules, system-level test and operations plans, and supporting launch-day and on-orbit operations. The engineer also supports the AIT team in proving the functionality of avionics systems on integrated vehicles. Strong analog and digital electrical engineering fundamentals and hands-on electrical experience are required; prior spacecraft experience is highly preferred. The role is based at Firefly Aerospace, headquartered in north Austin, Texas. U.S. space technology export regulations apply: candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • For level II: 3 years of experience working with aerospace component development, testing, integration, or operations.
  • For level III: 5 years of experience working with aerospace component development, testing, integration, or operations.
  • Experience in analog and digital circuit design, including use of logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, electronic loads, and multimeters, and interpretation of electrical schematics.
  • Experience performing trade studies and sensitivity studies to select the best architecture option.
  • Hands-on experience prototyping and testing circuits; 2 years required for level III.
  • Experience writing and verifying requirements; 2 years required for level III.
  • Experience in technical writing, documentation, and creating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Proactive, self-starting mentality.
  • Experience with Python.
  • U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligibility to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under space technology export regulations.
