Electrical Engineer - Robotics & Autonomous Systems Associate

Fathom RoboticsFort Worth, TX
Onsite

About The Position

Fathom Robotics provides operations, maintenance, training, and applied engineering services for uncrewed maritime systems supporting U.S. Government and commercial defense programs. We have multiple active projects across a variety of government and commercial clients and are actively fielding systems in operational environments. Fathom Robotics is hiring an Electrical Engineer to own electrical subsystem design and PCB layout for our AUV and USV programs, full-time and in-person at our Fort Worth, TX facility. You will define subsystem architecture such as power distribution topology and sensor interfacing, turn it into a validated board, then carry that design through bring-up and field validation alongside the team that builds and fields it. Boards you design get built, tested, and put in the water within weeks, not years.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on PCB layout experience, including schematic capture and board layout in tools such as Altium, KiCad, or Eagle; the top-priority qualification for this role
  • Some subsystem-level electrical design experience, such as power architecture or sensor interfacing
  • Degree, or equivalent hands-on experience, in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Solid grounding in circuit design fundamentals: power electronics, signal integrity, and component selection
  • Hands-on electronics experience, including soldering, wiring, and bench troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with microcontroller platforms such as Arduino, STM32, or Teensy, and flight controller hardware such as Pixhawk
  • Familiarity with Embedded C/C++ or Python
  • Comfortable in a lab or shop environment through prototype build and test, and able and willing to travel to field events, including outdoors and on boats
  • Resourceful and proactive, able to problem-solve independently in a small company environment
  • US person status required (defense program context)
  • Must be able to pass a background check and be eligible to obtain a SECRET clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Power electronics or battery management system design experience
  • EMI/EMC design and mitigation experience
  • Design experience with waterproof or marine-rated connectors and enclosures
  • ArduPilot, ArduSub, or MAVLink experience, on any vehicle type
  • IMU or GNSS sensor integration experience
  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks or equivalent) to coordinate with mechanical packaging

Responsibilities

  • Subsystem design: define electrical architecture, including power distribution topology, sensor and communications interface strategy (ArduSub, ArduPilot, MAVLink), and connector and harness planning for marine environments
  • Subsystem design: select components and build bills of materials, balancing performance, cost, and availability
  • PCB layout: own schematic capture and board layout, translating subsystem architecture into a manufacturable design
  • PCB layout: design connector, harness, and cable assemblies for marine and field environments
  • Bring up and validate new hardware on the bench, including electrical test, debugging, and design iteration
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing with real sensors and flight/vehicle controllers
  • Support field deployments to validate designs under real operating conditions and troubleshoot issues in the field
  • Maintain design documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and test reports

Benefits

  • Flexible ICHRA (Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement) plan
  • $750 stipend toward health coverage
  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
